knit shoes…

I found out last week that I’ve been selected for the Craft Victoria Fresh Awards. It’s so exciting to be selected and one of the perks is that my work will be on display amongst the other graduates at Craft Vic’s gallery. Being able to have my work there is a pretty proud achievement for me, and it’s great to showcased in such a dynamic exhibition. Although, lets face it, anything would be a step up from sitting in a shipping container during winter! Fresh opens on 03/12/10 and runs until 24/12/10.

The ‘knit shoes’ (above) are part of what I’ve submitted. I made them after MSFW and have been meaning to do a post on them for a while. Like the other shoes I developed with Caz, I’m not sure how functional/comfortable they would be to wear. That’s what I love most about working with materials and objects that are outside my skill set. I don’t know what is and isn’t possible when constructing shoes, therefore I’ve been completely un-inhibited when designing. Like I say ‘if you don’t know the right way, you can’t do it the wrong way’. The shoes are an experiment. They act as a launch pad for developing wearable and functional pieces.

GPO…

The RMIT Fashion program is currently holding residence on the second level of Melbourne’s GPO. Last night was the opening and it was great to see all the student’s hard work in one amazing space. I was lucky enough to have my work from MSFW on display amongst my graduating classmates. There are some snaps below that I took just before the third years show started. I could only see glimpses of the models because there was such a crowd, but what I did see was beautiful. The live band that played set such a fresh tone to the runway, I couldn’t help dancing during the show.
The GPO space shed some much needed natural light on our work- a welcome change from the harsh fluorescent’s of level ten! If you have any time to get down to the GPO I really recommend it, it runs until Nov 28. Congrats to Robyn and Jo for organising such a major event.

laser knit…

I had a sneaking suspicion that once assessment was over things wouldn’t slow down- and I was right. Things have been pretty hectic, and besides some laser cutting I haven’t had a chance to revisit anything. Here’s some of the results…
